Update: Our Patron Paul Marazzi
"I was delighted to be asked to become Patron of MACY and didn’t hesitate to accept as it’s a fantastic opportunity for me to become involved in such an amazing organisation, when Neil explained to me
what the group does for young people in the area I was so impressed I had to make a few calls including the lads in Blue to get the ball rolling on what I hope will be a fund raising event in 2012" - Paul
About Us
Formed in 2004 by John Winstanley Music and Arts for Chorley Youth, as it was previously known, was set up to encourage, discover and develop the artistic and cultural talent of young people in Chorley, and for those that can remember John was successful at putting showcase gigs on at Chorley Community Centre from which bands such as Duck Hunt, and Don’t Loose Mars to the Commies amongst others cut their teeth and honed their musical skills, some of those band members have gone on to make a career for themselves in music notably Matt Cogley of Failsafe and who is still a good friend of MACY.
That the history lesson over, since then the group has gone through periods of dormancy, activity, membership and committee changes but has always tried to keep abreast of rapid changes and developments in music, art, dance and drama.
To bring us up to date, MACY changed its name to Music and Arts for Creative Youth in order to appeal to a wider number of young people both in and around Lancashire, not just Chorley.
MACY as it is still referred to is run as a not for profit community group and by a committee of adults and young people who meet regularly to discuss progress and what we offer young people.
Since those early days of John’s showcase gigs we have extended our range of activities to include a recording and rehearsal studio for young bands and musicians run by DP Music Productions, rock school workshops, activities for children to enjoy in school holidays, professionally run art, drama and dance classes as well as Arts Award Qualifications through the Nationally recognised Young People’s Arts Awards to Gold Level which can in certain
circumstances provide the necessary points to access further educational courses and work opportunities.
There is still much more in the pipeline which we hope to start work on including voluntary and work experience opportunities once we have the funding in place so please keep visiting the site and perhaps visit the new member application page to become a MACY member and have your say, get discounts on our services and services from others and receive our regular newsletter updates.
